Obituary for Charles Richard Orchard

Charles Richard “Chuck” Orchard, 81, died Sept. 26, 2012, with his family by his side, in Grand Junction.
Chuck was the eldest of four children born Dec. 26, 1930, to Charles Everett Orchard and Leola (Happy) Guy in Baggs, Wyo. He attended school in Baggs, graduating in 1948.
Following high school Chuck was drafted into the army where he served in the Korean War as a mechanic and was honorably discharged in 1960.
On Dec. 26, 1959, Chuck married his lifelong friend and partner, Carol Ann Carr. Together they made their home on the Little Snake River Valley with the first of six children arriving in 1960.
In the early years, Chuck spent his days in the fields as a hay contractor, a sheep shearer, or building fence. But it was only fitting that he eventually would return to the skill the army once trained him for, using his strong hands to mechanic.
He ensured that each of his children and grandchildren learned the value of a good work ethic as they spent many days along side him in the fields or under the hood of a truck or piece of equipment.
Chuck was an avid outdoorsman, and his true passion was spending his spare time with his family and friends, either hunting, fishing or camping.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol; daughters Starlene Bobbitt (Joe Beydler), of Casper, Wyo., and Terry Orchard (Gil Martinez), of Montrose; sons Mark (AnnaLisa) and Bill (Floydene), of Baggs, Wyo., and Rod, of Craig; nine grandkids: R.J., Brandon, Kyle, Lindsey, Tyler, Bull, Jenna, Colton and Clay; and four great-grandkids.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, parents, brothers Robert and Bill, sister Mary, and infant son Ronny.
He will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral services will be at the high school in Baggs at 10:00 a.m. Oct. 6.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Valley Community Center, Snake River Walk for Life, or the Angel Program of Casper, in care of Grant Mortuary.
