Longtime resident of Boulder, Nora “Charlene” Reagin, passed away on February 12, 2017 at the age of 78. She was born March 28, 1938 in Pottsboro, Texas, to Joseph Carson and Minnie Ruth (Cook) Elmore. Her father worked as an engineer for the US Corp of Engineers. The Elmore family moved many times during Charlene’s youth- they lived in Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky, and Texas.
Charlene attended Paducah High School in Paducah, Kentucky. It was there that she met her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Harold “Gene” Reagin. The two were married shortly after they graduated on January 13, 1955 in Dennison, Texas. They started their life together in Ohio, then moved back to Dennison, TX where their first child, Tracy, was born on March 13, 1958. The Reagin family then moved to Denton, TX where their second child, Rick, was born on August 13, 1959. From Denton they moved to Tyler, TX where their third child, Karl, was born on December 22, 1967. Charlene still has rose bushes from Tyler, TX- the rose capital of the world- growing in her backyard. Around 1965 Charlene met her best friend for life, Lora Brown.
In the spring of 1970, the Reagins and Browns moved from Tyler, TX to Boulder, CO. They opened a small, local chain of grocery stores called Char-Los (“Char” for Charlene and “Lo” for Larua). Charlene was instrumental in helping Gene with his businesses. She helped him start and run a small chain of convenience stores, video stores, and check cashing stores, all while raising their three children.
Charlene had a great love of family and worked for years on her family’s genealogy. She was in constant contact with her cousins from Texas. She also loved to collect miniature tea sets, sewing, gardening, baking, making her own porcelain dolls and sewing dresses for them. Her delicious pies, cakes, fudge, and divinity are only part of what her family all looked forward to on each holiday. Charlene’s family will miss her delicious meals and holiday decorations.
Preceding Charlene in death were her parents, her husband Gene, brother Robert Elmore, and sister Helen Stratton.
Charlene is survived by her children: Tracy (C.J.) Liekhus, Karl (Stacey) Reagin, and Rick Reagin; grandchildren: Tonya Jo (Doug) Briggs, Russell David Daniels, Juston Keith (Jessica) Daniels, Amanda Ruth Liekhus, Zachary Gene Reagin, and Katelyn Marie Reagin; great-grandchildren: Owen Gene Daniels, Baily Nora Briggs, and Haddie Bre Briggs; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
