Robert Joe “Rob or Robbie” Kukura passed away February 9th, 2017 in Colorado from an unfortunate accident. Rob was born in Casper, Wyoming on Dec 18th, 1965. He was primarily raised by his mom, but also spent summers with his father in Idaho. He also enjoyed spending time with both grandparents. He spent many summers going camping with Grandma Jane & Grandpa Hub. Rob loved the outdoors and playing sports as well. He played football through junior high, played baseball through high school. He also began skiing when he was 5, which led him to racing on the Casper Mountain Ski Team and even skiing in the Junior Olympics.
After high school, Rob moved to Tucson, Az. and began a career in the restaurant business. He traveled to California to further his career, where he married Kelly, the love of his life, and the two began an amazing family. They moved to Colorado to be closer to home and spent the next 18 plus years running the Mediterranean restaurant in Boulder, raising their 2 boys and creating a family that also included many friends and colleagues. Finally, Rob & Kelly left the Mediterranean restaurant to open their own restaurant, 95a bistro & sushi, forming many more friendships that also became family.
Rob was known for his huge smile, big hugs, his laugh, his jokes, his goofiness, and his one-liners, or “Robisms”. He was incredibly generous host, and he always took care of everyone around him, making sure that family, friends, co-workers and guests always came first. He loved watching his boys play sports- especially lacrosse. He enjoyed going to Casper to go boating, traveling where ever a plane would take him, mowing his lawn, music –talking about the albums from his favorite bands, playing golf with his family, rounding everyone up by saying “let’s go smack little whitie around!”
Rob was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn Jane “Skip” Kukura, father Larry Lee Kukura, grandparents Joe & June Kukura and Myron & Jane Hubley, aunt Susie Spencer, aunt Alice Hubley.
He is survived by his wife Kelly Kukura, son Brodi Kukura, son Beau Kukura and his wife Bethany Kukura, grandson Braxton Kukura, granddaughter Berklee Kukura, brother Rick Kukura and wife Kim Kukura, nieces Shelby Kukura, Lynsee Patik, Christina & Nia Garner, Marika & Neva Garner, Lily Fay, and nephew James Schulte.
Rob never met a stranger, and all who knew him were lucky to do so. Even though his family and friends will miss him, he’s leaving behind lots of great memories and legacy of love.
