Leroy Green

Leroy A. Green of Westminster, Colorado passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013. He was 87 years of age. Born in Keno, Oregon, the son of William L. and Vesta A. Green, both of whom preceded him in death. He graduated from Roseburg High School in Roseburg, Oregon. At age 16 he was chosen to by the Oregon State Forest Service to fight fires during WWII. In 1943 he joined the Army Air Corp and was discharged in 1945 as the war was winding down. He spent the next five years going to college for degrees at Milwaukee Bible Institute and Wheaton Bible College. He received his Master’s Degree from the University of Oregon in 1951. In 1971 he earned his Doctorate degree in Educational Media from the University of Northern Colorado. At UNC Lee became an Associate Professor teaching for thirteen years. From 1996-1998 he became acting President of Colorado Christian University. He served 12 years on the Rocky Mountain Free Church District Board. Lee was also involved in men’s ministry in the Denver area. Lee married Patricia Mae Spalding in June 1948. During their 64 year marriage they were missionaries in Africa, lived in Brussels Belgium and many places in the United States. They settled in Colorado after being on the mission field for 10 years. Lee is survived by his wife Patricia, four children; Caroline Staehlin, Margaret Roelofs, William Green and Philip Green, Seven grandchildren, Stephen Roelofs, Amanda Roelofs, Brandon Green, Anna Green, Jonathan Staehlin, Jacob Staehlin, Joshua Staehlin and two great grandchildren; Janelle Green, Justice Green. Lee’s passions in life were his love of the Lord and sharing his faith with others through ministry, his family, friends and cars. A memorial service for Lee will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013, 10:00am at: Calvary Evangelical Free Church 12700 N. Caroline Kowis July 14, 1943 – April 27, 2013 Caroline (Carol) Kowis was born in Killdeer, North Dakota to John and Caroline (Wolk) Hartman. She was the youngest of eight. Her parents and two brothers precede her in death. She is survived by her loving husband Melvin (Mel) of fifty years marriage, also a son Kayne and wife Cindy Kowis of Hartland, WI. One daughter Kimberly (Kim) and husband Doug Porter of Arvada, CO. Grandmother of Valerie, Vanessa, and Alyssa Kowis of Hartland, WI and Tyler and Dustin Porter of Arvada, CO. A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 5:00pm – 7:00pm at Rundus Funeral Home. There will be a Mass held at Nativity of Our Lord in Broomfield, CO at 10:00am. Leonard Burris

L. Max Burris of Broomfield, Colorado, passed away Monday, April 22, 2013, after a short illness. He was 82 years of age. He was born in Lynn, Indiana, the son of Charles E. and Esther Burris, both of whom preceded him in death. A graduate of Union City, Indiana High School, he attended International Business College in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and obtained an Associate Degree in Transportation Management from La Salle University in Pennsylvania. He was a four year Air Force veteran, serving one year in Korea. Following his honorable discharge, he married his loving wife Joanne in 1955 and they moved to Broomfield in 1979 from Bolingbrook, Illinois. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sun City, Arizona and was a member of F&AM Lodge 450 of Dayton, Ohio and was a past board member of the Miami Valley Traffic Club of Dayton, Ohio. He retired in 1986, after having been employed by U.S. News and World Report Publishing Company as Traffic Manager and Director of Distribution Services for 30 years. In addition to wife, Joanne, he is survived by son, Michael of Lakewood, Colorado; daughters Vicki Christensen of Bolingbrook, Illinois and Joy Wasendorf of Arvada, Colorado; grandchildren, Kymberlee and Kyle Christensen of Bolingbrook, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Trinity, Xzvior and Isabella, all of Bolingbrook. He also leaves one brother, Fred of Clayton, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Broomfield United Methodist Church – 545 W. 10th Avenue, Broomfield, CO, 80020.

Marianne Barlow (Ronspies) Marianne was born to Julia and Reinhart Ronspies in Pierce, NE on January 25, 1929. She was married on June 8, 1954 to Alvin M. Barlow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierce. Marianne was a resident of Broomfield, CO and member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church since 1969. She passed away April 15, 2013 at Juniper Village in Louisville Colorado. She was 84 years ago. Marianne taught grade school for 44 years in Nebraska and Colorado. From 1972-1976 she was a parochial school teacher at Holy Cross in Thornton, CO and from 1977-1994 she taught at Blessed Sacrament in Denver, CO. She loved traveling and spending time with her family. In the early 1990’s she started The Ronspies Family Reunion which became very popular throughout the years. She also spent many years volunteering to coach Colorado Spelling Bee students at Blessed Sacrament. Her favorite annual trip was to Hawaii to visit her daughter, Lynn. She also loved day trips to Blackhawk and Central City for gambling and sightseeing. She is survived by her children, Roxanne Barlow, Jim (Meg) Barlow, Jerry Barlow, Tom Barlow and one son-in-law Vince Cosner. Sisters; Julie (Don) Blotz, Mildred Hish and brother Dennis (Shirley) Ronspies. Grandchildren; Casey, Adrienne, Kelsey, Luisa and Andrew Barlow. Predeceased by her spouse Alvin Barlow and daughter Lynne (Barlow) Cosner. Also, brothers and sister in-laws respectively, Wilfred (Alice) Ronspies and Eugene (Marilyn) Ronspies and one brother in-law Gerald Hish. The family would like to give special thanks to the Juniper Village of Louisville Colorado. Your special attention, respect, dignity and love for our Mother in her final years will never be forgotten. A catholic rosary will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 7:00 PM and the funeral services are on Friday April 19, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Broomfield, CO.

Harlow L. Ruck, born March 15, 1929 to Clark and Enid Ruck in Elba, New York. He attended Elba Central School and served in the Air Force from November 3, 1948 to September 2, 1952. He married Jacqueline J. Reiling on May 31, 1958. They have four children, Sheree (Kurt) Stropas, Bradley (Lisa) Ruck, Stephanie (Bradley) Unrein, and Jeffrey (Karyl) Ruck. They have twelve grandchildren, Sheena, Sonja, Stacie, Kenaniah, Evan, Elijah, Colette, Jacob, Aubrey, Augustus, Jackson and Jillian. Also survived by sisters Joan Carnahan and Sharon Heister. Preceded in death by his parents, brother, Audrey Ruck and great grandson, Anthony Unrein. Memorial service scheduled for Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Broomfield at 11:00am with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church.

Ernest Louis ‘Lou’ Eisele Ernest Louis Eisele died Sunday, March 24, 2013, of complications from heart disease at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colo. He was 84. He was born July 15, 1928, in Beggs, Okla., to Ernest and Martha Eisele. Known as “Lou,” he was raised in the rural eastern Kansas town of Richmond, where he spent many hours riding and caring for the Shetland ponies raised by family friends Bob and Elsie Gault. He graduated from high school in nearby Garnet and earned a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Kansas in 1950. It was at KU where he met his bride-to-be, Nancy Patricia “Pat” Williams. They were married on Sept. 3, 1950, in Wakefield, Kan. He enlisted in the Air Force and served as a navigator during the Korean War. Lou was a sales professional his entire career, working for and owning businesses in the insurance, banking, mobile home and real estate industries. His career took the family, which eventually included three children, to Kansas City, Kan., St. Joseph, Mo., Atchison, Kan., Broomfield, Colo., Thornton, Colo., Chandler, Ariz., and back to Thornton. Lou was known to family and friends for his enthusiastic outlook on all aspects of life. He was an avid fisherman and longtime participant in an annual Fathers Day week fathers-sons fishing trip to Taylor Park, Colo., that continues to this day after more than 40 years. It started as a small group from Broomfield and through the years grew to well more than 50 people, including third- and fourth- generation family members. He spent many more hours and days fishing the streams and lakes of Taylor Park and other favorite fishing holes in Colorado and elsewhere. Lou also was a sports fan, especially for his KU Jayhawks, who rewarded him with an NCAA Tournament basketball victory on the day of his death. His wife preceded him in death by 11 years to the day. He later married Lois Mattes on Sept. 20, 2003, in Denver. They lived in Thornton. She preceded him in death in 2009. He lived at Windcrest in Highlands Ranch the last two years of his life, where he made many new friends and participated in groups that studied and discussed topics including books, opera, orchids, politics and religion, as well as a predinner cocktail hour. Survivors include his children, Michael Eisele of Paradise Valley, Ariz., and Portland, Ore., Jeff Eisele of Durango, Colo., and Susan Horecki of Littleton, Colo.; stepchildren Kirsten Federico of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Lynn Henley of Denver; brother, John Eisele of Kansas City, Kan.; and six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held this summer. The family encourages people to contribute to the charity of their choice in his memory.

Gwendolyn Altman a homemaker died March, 23, 2013. She was 103 years old. Funeral Service will be held at Rundus Funeral Home in Broomfield, CO. She was born Gwendolyn Sparks, daughter of Pascal and Alice Sparks in Denver Colorado on October 26, 1909. She married Samuel Altman March 3, 1938 in Englewood Colorado. Mrs. Altman was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Louisville Colorado. Her husband and parents, four brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.
