Floyd Kercher August 14, 1924 – April 16, 2013 Floyd Kercher, 88, died on April 16, 2013 at Pikes Peak Hospice. Floyd was born on August 14, 1924 in Isabelle, SD to Charles and Lydia (Schmidt) Kercher. Floyd served in U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division during WWII as a Combat Medic in the European Theater. Floyd married Elsie I. Kunau on February 8, 1946, in Greeley, Colorado. Floyd spent most of his career in Commercial Construction in Colorado and California before returning to Colorado Springs in 2005. Floyd is survived by his wife, sister Vivian Weber of Grapevine, TX, brother Verlin Kercher of Colorado Springs, daughter Charlotte (Mike) Holland of Miamisburg, OH, son Ronald (Loretta) Kercher of Colorado Springs, 5 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jarrell Dean, sisters Lillian Schuler and Violet Gneiser, and brothers Elmer and Marvin Kercher. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, 24 April at 1:00pm, at Blunt Mortuary, 2229 W. Colorado Avenue in Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Pikes Peak Hospice, or The Wounded Warrior Project.

Samuel John McCullough May 12, 1920 – April 17, 2013 Samuel McCullough passed away on April 17, 2013 at 92 years of age. He was a Colorado Springs native, the son of Charles Gilbert and Emma Ruth (Day) McCullough. Sam graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1938. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Marine Corp in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a District Manager with Mountain Bell until his retirement in 1981, having worked there for 39 years. He was a long time volunteer with Telephone Pioneers and involved with “Audio Ball” for blind children; Past President and long time member of Centennial Sertoma, as well as a 20 year volunteer with National Kidney Foundation. Sam married Nance Scofield Arnold in 1971. He is survived by Nance, stepsons James Scofield and Tom (Susan) Arnold and Dr. Catherine Arnold. Sam was uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Charles and Jack. He was a kind man – a good man who appreciated a good life. Gracious thanks to Interim Health Care Hospice. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 10:00 AM at First Congregational Church, 20 E. St.Vrain Street., Colorado Springs, Colorado. June Marie Holton, 81 died April 17, 2013 in Colorado Springs. She was a school bus driver retired from School district #11 after 25 years. Mrs. Holton was born June 11, 1931, in Walsenburg, Colorado. She was married July 26, 1952 to Harry Holton Sr, whom precedes her in death. She is survived by her sons Harry Jr, and Ron; a daughter Katherine Kimsey and 10 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Monday at Evergreen Funeral Home, 1830 Fountain Blvd. Colorado Springs, Co., 719-475-8303. Jayne was preceded in death by her husband, the Honorable Judge John J. “Jack” Ahern Sr., daughter Jeanette, grandson John III “Jay”, sister Charlotte Petkovsek and parents Lawson Sennett and Ethel Sennett Yanchus. Loving mother of Ellen, John Jr. (Janina), Brian (Patricia), Marge Thibault (Roger) and Mary Beth. Grandmother of nine including Kate, Katrina Panizo (Patrick), Dan, and to Michelle, Julia, Andrew, David and Brian Thibault, great-grandmother to Sean Panizo, and loving aunt to many. A long-time Chicago resident, Jayne moved to Colorado Springs in 1996. She loved nature and the beauty of Pikes Peak and enjoyed being outside. A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013 at the Shrine of Remembrance Vista Grande Chapel, 5460 North Union Boulevard. Robert “Bob” Hartgenbush, age 67, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2013. He was a resident of Colorado Springs for 42 years and was a Dealership Owner and Partner with the Phil Long Organization. Robert was born in Ida Grove, Iowa to Burdette and Marie Hartgenbush. Bob loved to travel and experience the world. He enjoyed his career, but upon retirement he spent a lot time with his grandkids and nurtured his love for cooking. He was a Partner with the Phil Long Dealerships and after 30 years of service, retired in 2000. He is survived by his loving wife, Cindi Hartgenbush; his son, Robert Hartgenbush; his brother, Dan Hartgenbush; and his grandchildren: McKenna Greffenius, Mikayla Boynton and Bryse Boynton. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Holly Greffenius; and his parents, Burdette and Marie Hartgenbush. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. Arnold Eugene Schafer, 79, died Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Life Quality Home, Colorado Springs. He retired from the Air Force in 1973, taught instrumental music and retired from District 20, volunteered in the instrumental music program in District 11 at Mann Middle School and was principal trombone in the Colorado Springs Symphony for 47 years, retiring around 2000. Mr. Schafer was born August 9, 1933 in Worthington, Minnesota. He was married June 20, 1954 to Eleanor Rae Trowbridge who preceded him in death on May 25, 1999. He is survived by a son, A. Richard; two daughters, Lizabeth Renae Prutting and LeeAnne Wasinger; a brother, Gerald Schafer; two sisters, Lillian Jacobson and Mary Ann Haberman; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 24 at First Lutheran Church, 1515 N. Cascade Ave., A private burial will be at Air Force Academy Cemetery. Evergreen Funeral Home, 1830 E. Fountain Blvd. is handling arrangements and a Visitation will be held there on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 from 5-7 PM. Adolph John Zoudlik April 20, 1923 – April 19, 2913 Adolph John Zoudlik, 89, of Colorado Springs, passed away peacefully in his home one day shy of his 90th birthday on April 19, 2013. He was born in New York City on April 20, 1923 to Czech immigrant parents. Adolph, known by his friends as “Art” and his family as “Opa,” first learned to speak Czech, followed by English and later would study Russian, German, and French. Beginning in high school, Adolph found his love in music and learned to play the violin, bassoon, clarinet, saxophone, and the accordion. After the start of WWII, Adolph worked as a civilian machinist in a war plane factory, and later would be drafted to serve as an enlisted Soldier in the Army Air Corps. Upon completion of his enlistment he attended college earning his Bachelors Degree and then re-entered the U.S. Army as a Commissioned Officer. It was during his tour in Germany when he met his wife and the love of his life, Ilse Marie Fischer, and they had their only son Stephen Rudolph Zoudlik. Later in his career, Adolph served a one year combat tour in Vietnam, having arrived just before the Tet Offensive. Adolph retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel with 24 years of dedicated service in 1969 having earned a Masters Degree, the National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with the 10 year device, the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, and the Bronze Star Medal. After retirement from the Army he earned his second Masters Degree and pursued careers in education and nursing home administration. In retirement Adolph enjoyed his love of reading, philosophy, I Ching, micro-biology and physics. Adolph was preceded in death by his wife and the love of his life Ilse Marie Zoudlik. He is survived by his son, Stephen Rudolph (wife, Rosalia Ann) Zoudlik; his grandsons: Chief Petty Officer Stephen Edward (wife, Jessica Allida) Zoudlik, US Navy; and John Rudolph Zoudlik; and his great-grandchildren: Allison Marie Zoudlik; Melanie Ann Zoudlik; Stephen Alexander Zoudlik; and Avery Lynn Zoudlik. A private military memorial service will be held at Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80910.
